Treva Offutt will be directing Matilda during the 2019-2020 season. Treva is a singer-songwriter, actress, dancer, and visual artist. Over the years, Treva has had the honor of working with many dynamic dance/theater/music ensembles around the world including Belgium’s Remote Control Productions, Ireland’s Daghdha Dance Company, India’s Adishakti Theater Company, and New York-based Urban Bush Women. She has also had the great fortune to work as a vocalist with many world music and Jazz ensembles including: Jamaican sacred and folk music ensemble Ancient Vibrations, the Afro Pop group Afro-Blue, South African ensembles-Shyingoma, Osha, and Lucky Ngema and Friends, Mexican vocal project Choro Tajin, Phillip Hamilton, the David Murray Big Band, Sabir Mateen and Jeff Shurdett, Hammiett Blueit, Craig Harris, Dan Zanes and Friends, and with her own ensembles including her trio Lulutoy with Andy Ezrin and Jean Baptiste Boclé. Locally, Treva has had the pleasure of performing at Karamu in Rasheeda Speaking, Passing Strange, and as the choreographer for Aida. She has loved being a vocalist in collaboration with The Musical Theater Project, The Joe Hunter Trio and The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra for the past 5 years, and most recently performed in THIS at Dobama. She has written four plays, is a member of SAG/AFTRA, is a proud graduate of RISD, and was a curator at The Kitchen, in NYC for 7 years. Treva is a Performing Arts teacher at Laurel School and is thrilled to be in her 11th Season with HYT!
